THE TERROIR - A NATURAL FUTURE

After ten vintages, and ten years of getting to know the vineyard, the logical progression in the quest to obtain the best expression of the terroir was to convert the property to an organic and biodynamic approach.

With a total of 70 hectares of south-facing vines, the vineyard has an unusual amphitheatre shape with a difference of 60 metres between the highest and the lowest plot. There are 14 types of soil that can be placed in four main groups:

- pure limestone plateau with underground limestone quarry
- clay-limestone plateau on a subsoil of asteriated limestone,
- a clay-limestone hillside on shallow Fronsac molasse
- sandy silty clay at the foot of the hillside on a clay subsoil.

After ten vintages, and ten years of getting to know the vineyard, the logical progression in the quest to obtain the best expression of the terroir was to convert the property to Organic Agriculture. A philosophy has been established: no concessions to convenience, "the details produce the quality but quality is not a detail"; technical decisions are carried out on a plot-by-plot basis ; ploughing or grass cover, pruning, height of trellising, canopy management, enriching agents and even restructuring... Following “AB” certification (organic agriculture) in 2015, the property’s work ethic has continued on this path with the adoption of Biodynamic methods. Natural preparations, with a base of manure, plants and minerals, are mixed and applied according to the lunar calendar. This meticulous task is carried out in harmony with natural cycles, with respect for the environment and the people who live in it!.
