CHÂTEAUX DE LA DAUPHINE AND CANON PÉCRESSE UNITE TWO GREAT FRONSAC TERROIRS

The Labrune (Château de La Dauphine) and Pécresse (Château Canon Pécresse) families have concluded an association agreement to enhance these two great terroirs of Fronsac and Canon Fronsac. The Château de La Dauphine company is taking control of Château Canon Pécresse to support the development of this recognized cru of Bordeaux’s Right Bank, certified organic since 2020. Jean-Francis Pécresse will retain an operational role alongside Jean-Claude Labrune.

After integrating the Haut Ballet (2016) and then Vrai Canon Bouché (2021) vineyards into La Dauphine, Jean-Claude Labrune and his family confirm, with this operation, their ambition to drive the renewal of the Fronsadais region. Maintaining the integrity of Château Canon Pécresse also marks their desire to cultivate the unique identity of these two Fronsac and Canon Fronsac terroirs. La Dauphine produces great wines on asteriated limestone plateaus as well as the Fronsadais molasse found on the hillsides; Canon Pécresse has a character similar to the great wines of the Saint-Emilion limestone plateau – of which Canon Fronsac is the geological extension. Like La Dauphine, the Canon Pécresse vineyard will now be managed by Stéphanie Barousse and advised by Julien Viaud (Rolland & Associés).

Owner of Château de La Dauphine since 2015 and founder of the technology and services company Cegedim, Jean-Claude Labrune confides that he had “a crush on this vineyard, which has been managed for years according to the same philosophy as La Dauphine: respect for soils and biodiversity, meticulous care for the plants, micro-parcel work. Like La Dauphine, Canon Pécresse is cultivated like a garden,” adds Jean-Claude Labrune, who states he is “very committed to producing wines that are emblematic of these great Right Bank terroirs.”

After working for twenty years on the development of Canon Pécresse, Jean-Francis Pécresse says he is “very happy with this rapprochement between two family vineyards, animated and managed in a spirit of transmission and passion. This agreement, guaranteeing the sustainability of Château Canon Pécresse, will provide it with the means to continue its ascent in quality.” Jean-Francis Pécresse “thanks Stéphane Derenoncourt and his team for their inspired support and the remarkable work accomplished over the past ten years.”

About Château Canon Pécresse:

Owned since 1950 by the Pécresse family (also owners, at the time, of Châteaux Grand Corbin and Trotanoy), Château Canon Pécresse comprises 4.1 hectares of vines in a single block, planted on a clay-limestone plateau overlooking the Dordogne valley, in Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac (Gironde). This plateau is the exact geological extension of that of Saint-Emilion. Largely restructured over the past ten years, the vineyard now hosts 30% Cabernet Franc and 70% Merlot. The vintages produced since 2016 elegantly express the refreshing minerality of this highly privileged terroir. Advised since 2011 by Stéphane Derenoncourt, Canon Pécresse has been certified organic since the 2020 vintage. The wines are distributed by La Place de Bordeaux.

About Château de La Dauphine:

Château de La Dauphine bears witness to a royal past, shared with Versailles, due to the stay of the Dauphine of France, Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, mother of Louis XVI, in the 18th century. The property is set with a 66-hectare vineyard (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) on the best terroirs. Certified organic in 2015, La Dauphine reinforces its philosophy with biodynamic management, as well as obtaining various environmental certifications. Thanks to this respectful work with living organisms and controlled winemaking using ultra-modern technical facilities, Château de La Dauphine stands as one of Bordeaux’s essential properties, offering a complete range of great red, white, and rosé wines.
