Life at the heart of the vineyard

A sanctuary of biodiversity…

Protecting and preserving the fauna and flora around us is part of our DNA. From bats to bees, a natural pond that houses numerous insects, and our green and dry hedges, an ecosystem comes to life every day.

The sheep

The château’s 66 hectares of vines welcome sheep that enjoy high-quality grass, free from all pesticides.

This work helps preserve the biodiversity of the La Dauphine vineyard.

The sheep provide natural mowing of the soils and around the base of the vines, thereby avoiding mechanical intervention and reducing our carbon footprint. Their presence also enriches the soils, providing natural fertiliser for more vigorous vines.

The sweetgum trees

A fascinating harmony reigns here in this bucolic setting, enchanting every visitor!

The A.R.B.R.E.S. association awarded the “Remarkable Tree of France” label for the work accomplished by Château de La Dauphine to maintain, preserve, and safeguard the Oriental Sweetgum, which is over 300 years old.

As the story goes, this tree was planted during the construction of the château in the 18th century, making it one of the oldest Sweetgums in Europe!

Honey and bees

For several years now, new residents have made their home at La Dauphine.

They contribute to the vineyard’s biodiversity by ensuring 80% of pollination in the plant world. Vineyard management, without chemical products or pesticides, ensures the preservation of bees (wild and domesticated).

The honey crafted by these pollinators is a delicate and fragrant wildflower honey, available for tasting on-site or for sale at the Château boutique.
